Suggested Ways to Observe the National Day of Prayer Call friends & relatives reminding them to pray for our nation and leaders. Begin each day with a personal devotion time in God’s Word & prayer. Pray for neighbors, community concerns and government leaders. Pray everyday for one minute for one of the 7 X 7: Family, Church, Media, Government & Education, Business, Military. Let your state senator/representative know you are praying for them. Adopt a Leader. Pray for North Dakota elected officials, legislature, governor, U. S. president and Congress everyday. Start a home or neighborhood prayer group. Take a family walk down your street, stopping and praying for your neighbors as you pass by their home. Local Moms in Touch Groups can encourage there students to host a NDP event at their school.
Involve your senior citizens by giving large-print prayer guides to area nursing homes, senior centers and Meals on Wheels Programs. Gather with fellow employees over lunch for a prayer session. Visit a retirement center or nursing home to pray with the elderly. Contact shut-ins in your community and pray with them. Invite stay at home moms to a prayer luncheon that involves the children. Gather around the dinner table with your family & share prayer requests. Pray for a leader, family member, neighbor or “that other driver” at every red light. Bring a co-worker, family member, schoolmate, boy/girl scout troop, friend, Bible study group, home-school group or civic group to the ND State Capitol Prayer Service over the noon hour on May 1st, or to a NDP observance in your community. Pray for the active and inactive members of the Armed Forces. Hold a Bible Reading Marathon in your church or community. Host a 24-hour Prayer Vigil at your home or church. Call your pastor and let him/her know that you are praying for him/her and his/her family. Write a letter to the editor stating the importance of prayer and your commitment to praying for your community and its leaders. Encourage your family and church to make prayer an important part of each day and not just on the National Day of Prayer (1st Thursday of May). Sponsor a billboard encouraging your community to read God’s Word and to pray.
